The Miracle Worker

Today, my sister and I repainted my mama’s patio furniture with a nice coat of Rustoleum. Unfortunately, my sister got more on me than she did the furniture:

I asked my dad for some mineral spirits or something that would make me less Incredible Hulk and more normal girl. He told me to pull out the WD-40 and it would get it right off.

It really is a miracle worker!

(Please excuse my Flintstone feet, as my mama calls them lovingly.)

He also said it would work on cars too without damaging your original paint job. He used to own a body shop and he knows all kind of cool tips like that! I tried it on my flip flops, but they’re so porous that it only managed to even out the green tinge (they were a khaki color). So now I have some new yard workin’ flips:

Sami loves the panorama feature on my cell phone too!0531001758

And to show I’m a preppy country girl, I wear my pearls with my plaid shirt!

Blogger Couture

I got a few comments about my shirt my sister made me for my birthday and asked her where she got it. She told me she designed it on Zazzle.

It turns out not only can you design your own shirts, they have a bunch of cute pre-made ones also! Check them out:

Dream a Little Dream

DSCF2000

I was backing up all of my old files on my portable hard drive and came across this snippet for a paper I wrote my sophomore year in college about my “Utopia.” My ideals haven’t changed in five years and I’m willing to bet they’ll be the same in another thirty:

Sunlight and Smoke 2 S5000415

“I dream of a sweet, sultry place not unlike that of Clanton, Mississippi. My perfect world would be a place where the magnolias are always in bloom. The courthouse would be in the middle of the town where, as John Grisham puts it, “the square [would be] long and wide and the courthouse lawn [would be] covered with massive oak trees, all lined neatly and spaced equally apart.” Days would go by where the only relief from the thick air would be spent in a hammock by the river, with the breeze blowing on my face. I would pass the time speeding along a wide open road, enjoying the beautiful scenery from the driver’s seat of a convertible with the voices of Three Doors Down and Elvis crooning in the background. Homes would be lovely Victorian fixer-uppers, with plenty of time to restore them to the wonderful glory from years gone by.” –Sarah Mastrario (my maiden name!) November 15, 2005

I think I’m getting pretty close!

Fatties

0521001956

My husband is adventurous. He came across a recipe to make something called a “fattie” on an online forum the other day and I have to tell you—I thought he was crazy when he told me about it. He’s always quick to ask me what his last name is when I show signs of doubt about his cooking and I tell him, “I know, you’re a Cook,” and he really lives up to his name.

The concept is to weave bacon and lay out breakfast sausage (the kind that comes in the one pound roll) on top and fill it with apples, brown sugar and maple syrup. After that, you roll it all up and slow cook it on the smoker for almost three hours. Then you slice it up.

I wasn’t crazy on the sweet/salty combo (what was I thinking?) so Justin also made a hamburger version. I couldn’t be happier: Cheese, ground beef and bacon…it’s a proven success!

I love onions but no one else does so my sweet husband made me a small one with onions and our homemade pickles. I called it my “Fatboy Slim.” It was great! And after so initial reluctance, I tried the sausage version and it was delicious too! Even better than my hamburger version. It would be great for breakfast. You would have to make them up ahead of time and reheat them in the morning unless you want to wake up at 4 a.m. for them to be ready.

In unrelated news, Justin found some kittens under our back storage building. Skie was so excited to sniff the little one but she’s so big she scared it and Mow ran under a chair when I tried to get him to see it. Needless to say, we won’t be taking another pet in. :(

I also got this for my birthday from my youngest sister:

Benton Lee’s Steakhouse

Main_02

Tonight, my family and I traveled to an AWESOME steakhouse in Uvalda, Georgia.

Yeah, it’s really far (about an hour and a half), but TOTALLY worth it! I came home with a huge piece of steak leftovers. The leftovers are bigger than most steaks you get as an entree at regular chain restaurants.

On the way home, we cruised in my sister’s convertible with the top down.

I also tested out my new video camera to get some great video of a lightning storm. Here are some of the stills:
