Justin and I are going to be parents! We are so excited to tell everyone. I am just over three months along. Our little one, lovingly referred to as “The Gooblet” for now (Justin’s nickname is Goober) is expected to join us on May 10 if all goes well. Here’s to a wild and crazy ride!!!

The Punkin’ Patch

This weekend, Justin and I headed over to Mark’s Melon Patch and picked up some pumpkins to decorate our front porch. I can’t believe we waited until the week before Halloween to finally get some! We only carved one the other night because it had been a long, long day. We’re carving up our other two tonight and tomorrow, just in the nick of time.

Pumpkins and Breast Cancer Awareness

This weekend my favorite produce farm, Calhoun Produce, sponsored a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness. All proceeds of the Great Pumpkin Cookoff went to the Susan G. Komen foundation. I can’t wait to see what their total take was!

I entered a pumpkin cream cheese roll, and I have to say it was pretty awesome and I don’t like to brag!

I didn’t win—the competition was tough! There were tons of great entries.

My SIL made pink bra cookies and my MIL made two 15-layer chocolate cakes and two 15-layer caramel cakes. They had a silent auction for the cakes and I know they both went for at LEAST $50 each.

After the cookoff, we had a blast checking out Calhoun’s corn maze in the shape of the State of Georgia:

The goal was to find several major cities throughout the “state".” The last stop was the Okeefenokee Swamp. Justin found a gator there!

The kids played on the playground and we took a wagon ride to see some of the animals.

Luscious Lips

That’s what I’ll be having for the next oh….five years! I told y’all earlier about the awesome Nivea lip care deals I snagged at Walgreens the other day and that I had 20 coupons ordered from eBay. The seller (luvs2clipcoupons) has a 100% feedback rating and I have added one more to that! She was really quick. I ordered the coupons on Friday. They were in Sunday’s paper so she had a message on the item that they wouldn’t ship until Monday. I got my coupons on Wednesday—a lot quicker than I thought!

I headed over to Walgreens, fully expecting to get a rain check. I definitely didn’t think they would have enough, but I was able to pick up 18 FREE chapsticks! I only had to pay tax which was only $1.26. This is my best deal of the year so far!

This picture is missing a few because I went around the office like Santa passing out freebies!

Two years

Two years ago today, I married my sweetie.

b

He sent me this as a joke.

Guide[1]

I told him he’s lucky he’s at the fire department tonight or he’d be sleeping with Skie on the back porch.

I love love love that he can make me laugh with a few lines in an email.

We didn’t even have plans for anniversary gifts. Guess what showed up at my work today?

Isn’t he too sweet?! I guess I’ll have to make a super great dinner tomorrow night. I told him since he sent me flowers today, it won’t have Ex*Lax in it :)

F-R-E-E

I found some awesome deals today at Walgreens and CVS on my lunch break.

I saw in the circular at Walgreens that Nivea lip balms were only $1 this week and I printed two $2 off 2 coupons online (Sorry-they’re no longer available.). That means I got four FREE! I only paid $0.28 in sales tax!

I also stopped by CVS because I heard their coupon printer machines were printing out $5 off coupons for Halloween decor when you scanned your Extra Care card. I scanned mine and sure enough I got the coupon! I picked up these two cuties, which were on sale for 2/$5 FREE too! CVS is even more awesome because you don’t have to pay sales tax on coupon savings.

I think any day I get free stuff is a great day!

Feel your boobies

3  savethetatas feelboobies

Today marks the first day of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Although I haven’t been closely affected by breast cancer in my immediate family, I intend to keep it that way. Breast cancer is treatable if detected early. With catchy campaigns of pink ribbons and taboo slogans, everyone knows what the pink ribbon stands for, but sometimes we get caught up in the hype and miss the real message. Take a few minutes to absorb these facts. Check yourself once a month. Know the facts!

According to the CDC:

In 2006 (the most recent year numbers are available)—

  • 191,410 women were diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • 40,820 women died from breast cancer.

An estimated 182,800 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2000.

Approximately 42,200 deaths will occur in women from breast cancer in 2000.

One in eight women or 12.6% of all women will get breast cancer in her lifetime.

Breast cancer risk increases with age and every woman is at risk.

Every 13 minutes a woman dies of breast cancer.

Seventy-seven percent of women with breast cancer are over 50.

Approximately 1400 cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in men in 2000 and 400 of those men will die.

More than 1.7 million women who have had breast cancer are still alive in the United States.

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women between the ages of 15 and 54, and the second cause of cancer death in women 55 to 74.

The first sign of breast cancer usually shows up on a woman's mammogram before it can be felt or any other symptoms are present.

Early detection of breast cancer, through monthly breast self-exam and particularly yearly mammography after age 40, offers the best chance for survival.

Ninety-six percent of women who find and treat breast cancer early will be cancer-free after five years.

You are never too young to develop breast cancer! Breast Self-Exam should begin by the age of twenty.
