Since the loss of Jeb a few weeks ago, we had a blue heeler sized hole in our hearts. We had tossed around the idea of getting an Australian shepherd but we kept returning to a blue heeler. When Justin and I both found this sweet girl during our Craigslist searches, we decided to get her. She is six months old and although we wanted to get a small puppy (a little easier to train), she is so sweet and loving!
My SIL Amanda and I took a day and headed up to McDonough to drop their new camper off for repairs and we jaunted on up to IKEA for Amanda’s first visit. Let me just say that IKEA on a Saturday is a nuthouse and packed to the gills, but we had a great time.
We met up with May’s former owner in Forsyth and she rode the whole way back in the front of the truck.
By now, you might have realized that we now have a dog named May and a dog named June. We didn’t do it on purpose for sure! We had June for a few weeks first and because May was already 5 1/2 months old, she came with a name already. No, our next dog won’t be April or January.
Here’s a fun fact: May is a pureblooded blue heeler and we hope to breed her one day. As I was filling out her CKC registration papers, I told Justin we needed to give her one of those over-the-top pedigree names. He and I struggled to come up with something fitting. I am a huge Hunger Games fan and joked that her name should be “May the Odds Be Ever In Your Favor” and Justin AGREED! He laughed and said it was all right with him. So we are the proud owners of registered blue heeler Miss May The Odds Be Ever In Your Favor Cook.
May is finding her way into our family life wonderfully. She and June run laps around the house chasing each other and she plays perfectly with Wyatt.
