Amanda at Serenity Now is having another Dishing It party today. This edition focuses on dads and am so happy to join in! Visit the blog party and check out what everyone else has to say!
~Name your favorite TV or Movie dad.
I always liked Reverend Eric Camden on 7th Heaven! He was a preacher, but a really down to earth dad at the same time.
Andy Griffith was pretty awesome too!
~What's the best thing about your dad?
My dad is always supportive of the things we do. He is one of our biggest cheerleaders. Daddy and I share common interests in local economic development, so we always have things to discuss, even if it’s a something as mundane as the city council meeting. He was always good to spot me some money in college and didn’t mind fixing my car. One of the favorite things he tells me when I ask him for help fixing something is: “Honey, I can fix anything but a broken heart; but I can mend that.” He’s got the corniest jokes and tells them over and over and over again. When he takes the family out to eat, he jumps to pay the bill and says, “You girls are like crime—you don’t pay.” He held his own in a house with four women. He also always says everything he has is for sale for the right price except for my mama, my sisters and me because he has too much invested in us and would never get his money back! I think by the time Justin came around, he was just glad for a guy to be on his side!
~What's something you enjoyed doing with your dad when you were a child OR what do your kids like to do with their dad?
I loved riding my dad’s motorcycle or in one of his “cool” cars. I was hot stuff riding in the Christmas parade on the back of his motorcycle! My dad’s stopped riding motorcycles and has gotten his pilot’s license. I can’t wait for my kids to take their first ride in his plane some day.
~If your husband is a father, what does he do that makes him a great dad?
Justin and I don’t have any kids yet, but I know he’ll be a great dad when I watch him interact with our nephews and niece. He has so much fun with them and I know he’ll be great with our kids :) He told me that he can’t wait to teach our kids how to hunt and I know taking them to see their dad at the fire department will be so fun.
My dad took me to get my license and let me drive with the top down on my Mustang on the way there. When we got to the DMV, I made a comment about his crazy Lyle Lovett hair. It’s a running joke in my family about our “Lyle Lovett” hair in the mornings. Every time I actually see Lyle Lovett on TV, I think about sitting around the kitchen table in the mornings making fun of each other.
Something funny between my dad and Justin was when Daddy gave me away at our wedding, he told Justin, “No deposit, no return.”
I found this the other day and I think it’s a really cool idea:

Your dad sounds great; thanks for sharing your stories and pictures! I had to laugh at what he said to Justin at your wedding: what my dad said to my husband was, "She's YOUR problem now!"
