This weekend was the annual Fireant Festival in my little hometown of Ashburn, Georgia!
Last year, the weather was terrible and the FAF was cancelled due to localized flooding and sporadic tornadoes throughout the region. We were blessed by fair weather for the most part, although it took longer than everyone expected to warm up on Saturday. Here are a few pics from the weekend. I was busy and moved from one event to another in rapid succession. We started out with the lip sync contest and fireworks on Friday, to the Fireant 5K run that the Turner County Council on Child Abuse does every year, to the health fair and finally wrapping up the festivities with the Strawberry Cookoff (sponsored by the great folks at Calhoun Produce!) that my mom started when I was only ten! Hope you enjoy!

Those cakes look delish :)
I'm following!!!
Thanks for the love! I have to give props to Calhoun Produce because they have been AWESOME sponsors. They sell a cook book with prior years' winners in it. I am not sure how long ago that was, but they are ALL awesome recipes :) You can buy it here: http://www.calhounproduce.com/cookbooks.htm
Sothern Festivals are the best! Love the stawberry creations!
I am literally drooling over all those cakes and strawberry creations!
You have a little surprise on my blog! Come check it out!
Thanks for submitting this post for the sweet tea and biscuits southern blogger roundup. I haven't selected one to feature just yet but it is fun to see everyone's post. Talk to those produce /cake folks and see if they want to do a cookbook giveaway on southern mommas ? I would love to feature a company like that and I think the mommas would love to win a TRUE southern cookbook. Let me know. Talk soon
We also have an annual Fire Ant Festival here is Marshall, TX. Yours looks far more demure though. Ours consists of various events like a fire ant calling contest and a chili cook-off where every contestant is required to put at least one fire ant in the chili.
